CHELSEA NEIGHBORHOOD AREA LIFESTYLE

Chelsea Neighborhood Lifestyle

The townhouses and prewar co-ops of gay-friendly Chelsea have been home to photographers and filmmakers for years. Recently, doctors, lawyers, and business owners are making Chelsea home. Chelsea has it all ? nightlife, art, shopping, and recreation at the Piers. And, of course, a happening gay scene.

Attractions
Chelsea Piers
Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex is a 30-acre waterfront sports village located between 17th and 23rd Streets along Manhattan's Hudson River. This $120 million, privately-financed project has transformed four historic, but long-neglected, piers into a major center for public recreation and waterfront access. Chelsea Pier offers a Golf Club, Sports Center Health Club, Sky Rink, Fieldhouse, Events Center, and more!

The Chelsea Market
The Chelsea Market sits in the heart of Chelsea, a one stop culinary food shop, a gourmet lover's wholesale-retail wonder world, and an energetic, industrial-chic hotspot, all meshed into a million square feet of space, along an historical 800-foot concourse on the most unique city block in Manhattan.

Chelsea Hotel The Chelsea Hotel
The hotel started out as a co-op apartment building and was, surprisingly enough, the city's tallest building for more than a decade. n 1905, after the co-op went bankrupt, the Chelsea turned into a hotel and quickly became the favorite lodging (or hangout) for a number of notable visitors to New York over the course of the 20th century, including Mark Twain, Dylan Thomas, William Burroughs and Andy Warhol.
Arts & Musuems
West Chelsea Arts
New York's most exciting galleries line the long blocks of westernmost Chelsea, in the 20s between Tenth and Twelfth Avenues. Many of the top names in the gallery world are here, along with the Dia Center for the Arts, a longtime bastion for non-traditional art.

This site offers a comprehensive gallery guide for west chelsea's booming art community. Bringing you information on chelsea art galleries. Exhibitions and opening receptions. Artists profiles, artwork and slideshows.

Lincoln Center
The city's foremost performing arts center is Lincoln Center, home to the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and the New York City Ballet. In 2004, the center opened up its first new venue in decades -- Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick Rose Hall.

Guggenheim Museum Guggenheim Museum
Founded in 1937, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is a modern art museum located on the Upper East Side in New York City. It is the best-known of several museums owned and/or operated by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, and is often called simply The Guggenheim. It is one of the best-known museums in New York City.

Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, often referred to simply as "the Met", is one of the world's largest and most important art museums. It is located on the eastern edge of Central Park in Manhattan, New York City, United States. The Met also maintains "The Cloisters", which features medieval art. The Met's permanent collection contains more than two million works of art from around the world.

Theatre
broadway and time square

Times Square is the heart of New York's theater world. In its neon-splashed center presides the Times Square Ticket Center (TKTS) booth, where same-day theater tickets are sold for half price. On the square's side streets are the famous Broadway theaters -- the Shubert, the Belasco, and the like. Most smaller and more experimental Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theaters are located downtown, where you'll also find modern dance and art-house movie theaters.
